New Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior has issued a positive injury update on a number of stars ahead of Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Brentford.
Wednesday saw Chelsea host Arsenal in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge.
A spirited performance from the Blues saw them twice go two goals behind, only for Alejandro Garnacho to reduce the deficit on both occasions.
The former Manchester United man scored twice to keep Chelsea in the tie, with the score finishing 3-2.
Chelsea’s new coaching staff had to make do with a number of top players pulling out late on.
But it looks like Rosenior’s side will have a big influx of returning stars available for this weekend’s Brentford game.
Liam Rosenior Provides Positive Chelsea Injury Update
Ahead of the Arsenal game, incoming boss Rosenior was dealt a disastrous blow.
Rosenior joined Chelsea last week after Enzo Maresca was sacked, but he could not have been handed a tougher first game.
No fewer than five senior players were ruled out at short notice, drastically reducing Chelsea’s options.
In his first game in charge, Rosenior lost half a team’s worth of players within roughly 24 hours of kickoff.
But the news coming out of Chelsea after the game is far more positive, with Rosenior expecting most if not all of them back.
Ahead of the game, skipper Reece James pulled out, but is thought to be available for the weekend.
“We’ve been really unfortunate. Reece James took a knock on his hip and he’s just not quite ready for this one,” said Rosenior before Arsenal.

On Cole Palmer, he added: “Unfortunately for Cole, he’s obviously an outstanding player, he should be available for Saturday, but didn’t quite make it for this one.”
As for Liam Delap, illness kept him out in midweek, but he is expected to be recovered by Saturday.
Likewise, Jamie Gittens was also unwell and pulled out of the Arsenal match, but should be fine.
As will Malo Gusto, who suffered a slight knock but Rosenior expext to feature at the weekend.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Levi Colwill. The defender has not played since ruptiring his ACL, and will not return this season.
And Romeo Lavia’ injury problems are also continuing. The Belgian has been out since Novembers Champions League trip to Qarabag.
With no return date set, it’s unclear when he might be back in a blue shirt.
Chelsea’s Returning Stars Will Be Massive For Rosenior
The return of five top players will be a huge boost for Liam Rosenior.
His side performed well enough against Premier League Leaders Arsenal, and looked threatening at times.

But they were exposed defensively, and will be frustrated to have conceded three goals on home turf.
Getting the likes of Cole Palmer, Liam Delap and skipper Reece James back will undoubtedly lift the team.
And with a new manager in the dugout and an important run of games coming up, they will need to hit the ground running.
