Chris Foy Analysis: Man Utd Vs Newcastle United

Referee Analysis: Chris Foy

Man Utd Vs Newcastle

As part of my referee feature ‘Referees Rants’ I will be analysing referees performances in various different games and my first is Chris Foy in his first game of the season Manchester United Vs Newcastle United.

Overall I felt Foy had a good game and kept control well with minimal errors in all but I felt there is still room for improvement. The first of which is bookings. I thought that Foy was good to book players in the manor he did but his consistence wasn’t good enough. In addition, Foy booked one player and then only warned another for a similar tackle. Secondly, I thought that Foy was also playing advantages when a player wouldn’t get a real advantage i.e. near his own goal. Yes I agree stopping and starting in a football match is not good entertainment but an advantage is suppose to be what it says on the tin- to give a player a clear advantage but with 50 yards to run and with 5 players to beat where’s the advantage there?

Also, there was one big event that Foy missed his assistant getting verbally abused. Whilst taught the Laws Of The Game, I was taught that if a player swears at either you or any of your assistants that it is a straight red but last night I saw Foy’s assistant abused several times and in one event you could hear clearly the player say after a decision had gone against them ‘f*** o**! That wasn’t a foul you stupid T***’ Which I personally would send a player off for that statement but Foy didn’t even notice it which I think is wrong but I do think he did have a good game throughout.
