Colina, come back!

The first round of the tournament is already behind us (and the second is almost on the half way) and the favorites are slowly revealing. But, except Podolski, Ronaldo and Villa, in the first plan have slipped some people who don’t belong there – the referees.

Pieter Vink

The first round of the tournament is over and we’ll remember it, among the else, by the bad refereeing. On every one of four games, the referees made at least one huge mistake, and some of them directly affected the result.

Already at the opening of the Euro on the match between Switzerland and Czech Republic, the host were underprivileged for a penalty shot, after David Jaromlin fouled Gelson Fernandes. The referee Rosetti thought differently, and the Swiss were later beaten by the goal from Sverkoš.

One day later, the Dutchman Pieter Vink was  judging to Austrians and Croatians. Emanuel Pogatetz made a foul for a penalty right at the start on Ivica Olić and for too much complaining and protesting was ‘rewarded’ with a yellow card. In the 29th minute these two players are on the stage again – Ola goes past Poggi, and the Austrian stopper pulls, drags and at the end pecks Olić down with a leg hit. Anyway, this was just another foul for Vink.

In the Group C, nobody is still sure if the goal scored by Ruud van Nistelrooy was regular.

The last mistake is a creation of Konrad Plautz and his linesman in the match between Zbornaja and Furia. Namely, the last spanish goal was scored from off-side.

Considering the fact that on the fifth day, in the matches of the second round between Portugal and Czech republic and between Turkey and Switzerland, there were no larger mistakes, it is possible that it’s finally the end of referee’s mistakes.
