Dropped: Djibril Cisse

Djibril Cisse is a 26-year old French striker with Ivorian descent. He started his football career at the academy of French club Auxerre in 1996 at the age of 15 years, and signed his first professional contract with the team in 1998. Cisse spent 6 years at Auxerre, until 2004, making 128 appearances in which he scored 70 goals. In 2004, he made a move to the Premiership, with Liverpool being his destination in a £14 million+ move. After just 19 games, he suffered a terrible injury where he broke his leg. Had it not been the quick attention from the medical team, Cisse would have lost his leg. He spent the 2006/07 season on loan at Marseille, and at the end of the season decided to make the move from Liverpool to Marseille permanent. Cisse scored 24 goals in the 56 appearances he made for Marseille since 2006. He is currently still a Marseille player.

With Liverpool, Cisse was in the team that won the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League, the 2005/06 Super Cup, and the 2006/07 FA Cup. He is renowned for his acceleration, speed, powerful shots, shot technique, and also for his attention-grabbing hairstyles. Cisse’s debut for the French senior team came on the 18th May 2002, in a game against Belgium. Until now, he has earned 37 caps with a return of 9 goals. He was part of the team that won the 2003 Confederations Cup. He was called up for the 2006 World Cup squad but unfortunately suffered another horrendous injury in a preparation match against China. He was drafted by Domenech in the 30-man squad but did not make the 23-man squad for Euro 2008.
