Dzek-Out the Premier Leagues Most onform Player – Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko

After a £27 million pound move to Manchester City from Wolfsburg in January, many things were expected from Bosnia & Herzegovina striker Edin Dzeko, who had scored 66 goals in 111 games at German side Wolfsburg, in which he helped them win the German Bundesliga in the 2008-2009 season. He had been expected to leave Wolfsburg for AC Milan 6 months earlier, but he stayed until January when the Volkswagen owned side under the management of the ‘wally with a brolly’ Steve McClaren accepted Man City’s offer for the lanky striker. However, it proved to be a hard start to his Premier League life as he struggled to score in the rest of the Premier League season, scoring twice in Man City’s remaining matches. This left Dzeko rendered as a dodgy signing by Mancini and with City’s amount of quality strikers in the newly signed Sergio Aguero, his homesick Argentinean compatriot Carlos Tevez & the temperamental Mario Balotelli, you would have been excused for thinking that Dzeko would struggle for first team opportunities.

 

However, a goal in the 3-2 Community Shield loss to Manchester United seemed to show that Dzeko might be able to show the form that got Manchester City to sign him for £27 million pounds. He was rewarded with that goal with a start against Swansea, and he rewarded Mancini with a goal & this was the first sign of the start of possibly one of the Premier League’s best strike partnerships with Sergio Aguero. Another start meant another goal for Dzeko against Bolton, in which he proved a handful for the opposition. Those performances might have been impressive but the World finally took notice with his performance against Tottenham at White Hart Lane. With four goals against Harry Redknapp’s side, that took his tally to 6 goals in 3 Premier League games, in which he had trebled his goal scoring tally from last season.

 

Man City have proved a massive threat going forward with 12 goals in 3 Premier League games & while many people will put this towards the signing of the brilliant Aguero but the Bosnian striker is showing his true worth and if he continues like this, Man City’s Premier League ambitions could finally be realised. When Zeljeznicar, the Bosnian club Dzeko started his career at sold him to Teplice in the Czech Republic for £25,000, a director at the Bosnian side said that ‘(we) had thought we had won the lottery’. Now his impact at Manchester City could make Roberto Mancini & the City fans feel like they have won the lottery if he continues his current vain of form.
