Elliott Signs New Deal As Second Anderson Bid Is Rejected

Bristol City midfielder Marvin Elliott has signed a new contract with the West Country side, alleviating fears that he may leave during the summer transfer window.

Fans and officials alike will be pleased with the new deal, which should, theoretically, see the midfielder remain at the club until 2012. The Bristol Evening Post said that Elliott was “delighted” to have signed.

Meanwhile, the Robins have failed in their second bid for Barnsely midfielder Anderson de Silva.

Tykes boss Simon Davey, quoted in the Bristol Evening Post, said, “Bristol came in with a bid and we rejected it – and then they came in with an improved offer, but that bid was not accepted either.”

Anderson de Silva: Still wanted by Gary Johnson?

Perhaps City’s pursuit for the Brazilian will fade away now that Elliott has re-signed, although sources suggest that Gary Johnson is still keen on bringing the former Everton midfielder to Ashton Gate.

Davey is equally keen to keep hold of the highly-rated player, but admitted that if a bid matching the £1 million price tag slapped on by Barnsley is made, he may have to let de Silva go.

“Every player has a price, so we’ll have to see what happens. I don’t want to lose him, Anderson is an integral part of our team”, he said.
