England line up Netherlands match

England will begin their 2009-10 campaign with a friendly against the Netherlands in Amsterdam on 12th August. This will hopefully be a good indicator as to how well we will do in the qualifiers and how we fare against one of the best international teams in the world as they are ranked fourth in the FIFA Rankings. It is an opportunity to get a settled team.

  • Both teams are top of their qualifying groups for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
  • The last time they played in Amsterdam in 2006, Wayne Rooney grabbed the opening goal in a 1-1 draw in a very good match.
  • As part of the deal, the Netherlands, who reached the Euro 2008 quarter-finals, will play a return fixture at Wembley in August 2011 which should be very interesting as our youngsters will be fully developed by then.
  • The announcement means England’s 2009 fixture calendar is almost complete with friendlies already scheduled against Slovenia and Slovakia in March and September respectively which should be a piece of cake.
