EPL Fixtures Released

The English Premier League fixtures for the 09/10 were released today.  Manchester United opens their season at Old Trafford on 15 August against newly promoted Birmingham.  Three days later the Red Devils play another new boy; Burnley. All eyes will be on Manchester United as they start their season without he who must not be named. In theory; the first two matches should give Sir Alex a chance to see where his players are at, but by the time opening day roles around Fergie should already know. After the preseason tour of Asia, the and tournament matches are anything but a holiday. Manchester United first challange in the Audi cup is South American power house Boca Juniors; then either Bayern Munich, or AC Milan. There is also a pre-season match against Valencia CF, and the Community Shield match with Chelsea.  By the time August 15th rolls around the squad should be already be steady.

There is much speculation about who will be brought in to replace Ronaldo.  Ribery, and Villa are just a couple of names that are being tossed out by the rumor mill.  What if Fergie knew all along.  What if moves where being made last season in order to fortify the squad.  The complaint last season was not enough playing time.  Could it be that the departure on Ronaldo wasn’t the presumed title wave, but a small ripple.  Could be that Sir Alex will wait for the transfer market to calm down, and Manchester United’schesterperformance will show all of Europe that they aren’t in a desperate situation.  100 million could go further in January than it will now.

When you look at this years fixture and compare it to last year we see very few surprises.  The good news is that we don’t see Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea in the same proximity as last year.  Maybe we won’t see the traditional October slump, but then again better the slump in October than May.
