Erling Haaland scored five goals as Norway demolished Moldova 11-1 in World Cup qualifying.
The Manchester City star even apologised to opposition goalkeeper Cristian Avram for what the shot-stopper described as the “worst day of my career”.
Haaland Scores Five Goals as Norway Smash Moldova
The Group I clash turned into a nightmare for Moldova as Haaland struck five times in ruthless fashion.
Felix Horn Myhre, Martin Odegaard and substitute Thelo Aasgaard — who scored four — added further misery as Norway recorded their biggest-ever competitive win.
Despite racing into an early lead, Norway showed no signs of slowing down, with Haaland repeatedly collecting the ball from Avram’s net as he and his teammates chased goal difference.

Moldova Goalkeeper Reveals Haaland Gesture
After conceding 11 goals, Moldova goalkeeper Cristian Avram revealed Haaland approached him at full-time with words of sympathy.
“He said it wasn’t my fault,” Avram explained. “He apologised for rushing after every goal and told me they had to keep pushing because of the goal difference.”
Group I World Cup Qualifying
Norway’s 11-1 win moves them six points clear of Italy at the top of their group, with a superior goal difference of +16.
The Scandinavian nation, absent from the World Cup since 1998, now has a clear route towards automatic qualification for the 2026 tournament.
Italy and Israel are level on nine points but trail Norway significantly on goal difference. The group winners qualify directly, while second place faces the uncertainty of the playoffs.
For Moldova, the result was another painful chapter in a disastrous campaign. Rock bottom of Group I, they have zero points and a goal difference of –22 after five matches.
Manager Serghei Clescenco did not hold back post-match, blaming his players for the humiliation:
“It’s a shame for us. Each player has their own answer… but they don’t answer what I ask,” he said before storming out of the press conference.
The 11-1 scoreline now stands as Moldova’s heaviest defeat in international football, surpassing their 8-0 loss to Denmark in 2018.
Haaland International Record
Speaking after the match, Haaland reflected positively on his extraordinary scoring run for Norway.
Asked about averaging more than a goal per game in his international career, the 25-year-old said:
“I completely agree. It was a great game. We fought until the end. It was a historic night.”
Haaland’s record now stands at an incredible 48 goals in 45 caps.
