Nathan Patterson Exit Talk Gives Everton Clear Run at Long-Tracked Target

Genoa are exploring a late move for Everton full-back Nathan Patterson, opening the door for a long-standing transfer target.

Should Patterson switch to Serie A, it could give Everton a clear run at Genoa’s Brooke Norton-Cuffy before the window shuts.

Genoa interest in Nathan Patterson

Genoa are weighing up a loan move for Patterson as they prepare for the possible departure of Norton-Cuffy.

The Everton right-back has struggled for minutes this season under David Moyes, starting just three Premier League matches and making six league appearances in total.

Patterson came off the bench in Saturday’s draw with Brighton, but his role remains limited. Injuries have played their part again this season, with two separate setbacks disrupting his rhythm.

Romano says Genoa’s interest is directly linked to Norton-Cuffy’s future. If their England Under-21 defender leaves, Patterson is viewed as a ready-made replacement.

Everton handed chance to sign Brooke Norton-Cuffy

Everton have been tracking Norton-Cuffy for months and recently reopened talks with Genoa.

The former Arsenal right-back is valued at around £17 million, a figure Everton have been reluctant to meet outright, but a compromise could be met if Patterson moves the other way.

There was encouraging news earlier on deadline day when Inter Milan cooled their interest, which has left the Toffees well placed if they decide to make an approach.

A deal could hinge on Patterson’s willingness to move to Serie A at short notice. Without his exit, Everton would be left short at right-back, with Seamus Coleman the only other natural option.

Will Everton let Patterson leave?

Allowing Patterson to leave without securing a replacement would be a risk, especially with the club already thin in defensive areas.

Moyes has preferred caution in the market and has so far added only Tyrique George on loan.

That context makes a swap-style arrangement appealing. Everton would avoid weakening the squad while finally landing a younger right-back with resale value.

Everton are also planning for life without Jack Grealish, who is expected to miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his foot.

The on-loan Manchester City winger has been one of their most effective attackers, contributing eight goal involvements in 20 league games.

With Grealish sidelined and Patterson’s future uncertain, deadline day decisions could shape Everton’s run-in as they push for a European finish.

They currently sit ninth in the Premier League, only two points behind seventh-placed Brentford.

Whether Genoa’s interest becomes the catalyst for Norton-Cuffy’s arrival now depends on how quickly the final pieces fall into place.
