Aston Villa See £69 Million Deadline Day Bid Rejected For La Liga Star

Aston Villa have see their advanced rebuffed once again for Barcelona striker Ferran Torres after a £69 million bid was rejected on deadline day.

It’s no secret that Aston Villa are in the hunt for a striker in the winter window.

In January, Villa bid for Barcelona’s Ferran Torres, but saw their £52 million offer quickly turned down.

But they have now come back in for the Spanish striker, though Barca have once again rejected the offer.

Barcelona Reject Latest Aston Villa Bid For Ferran Torres

Former Manchester City striker Torres has been a key target for Aston Villa this window.

The 25-year-old has been on Unai Emery’s radar for some time, and despite Villa signing Tammy Abraham, they remain in the hunt for a striker.

But their attempts to sign Ferran Torres have so far been thwarted by Barcelona.

Villa’s latest offer is reported to have been worth £51m, with an additional £18m in add-ons.

But despite the mammoth bid, and Barca’s shaky financial position, that bid has been rejected in no uncertain terms.

Barcelona view Torres as crucial to their future plans, and have made their position abundantly clear.

The striker is not for sale, and will not be leaving the Nou Camp this window – barring an astronomical bid.

Aston Villa Must Rely On Watkins And Abraham For This Season

With Ferran Torres not joining, Villa must hope that new arrival Abraham will deliver.

Former Chelsea man Abraham spent several seasons at AS Roma, but had most recently been on loan in Turkey with Besiktas.

The England international is a familiar face at Villa Park, though.

Abraham was pivotal in Villa’s 2018-19 promotion-winning season, scoring 25 goals in the Championship while on loan from Chelsea.

He made his second debut for the club in Sunday’s 1-0 home defeat to Brentford in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, star striker Ollie Watkins needs to rediscover his form.

The 30-year-old has scored eight goals in 33 total appearances this season, well below his usual standard.

With Donyell Malen joining Roma, Villa’s reliance on Watkins has become even greater.

As a result, missing out on the goals and creativity of Ferran Torres will be a hard pill to swallow.

The Spaniard’s ability to play out wide and link up with Watkins could have helped the latter improve his goal tally.

But as it stands, Villa will have to make do with Watkins and Abraham – until the summer at least.
