With the summer drawing closer, the World Cup is getting the attention, but there is also some transfer that are going on also. Many Premier League clubs are looking to get the players, with reports of Diego Costa’s 32m move to Chelsea and Luke Shaw’s move to Man United with the heavy price tag of 27m. But who are the players that can come for free and be as effective as the other high-priced players?
GK: Kasper Schmeichel, 27, Leicester – With his contract running out this summer (like 7 other players) the son-of.. has been attracting attention from all over Europe, from Milan to Arsenal. But Nigel Pearson is poised to keep the Danish giant in his squad as he will try to keep the foxes alive at the Premier League.
LB: Ashley Cole, 33, Chelsea – One of the best left-backs in the world has been out-of-favour in Jose Mourinho’s first season back at Stamford Bridge. Altough it’s not Cole’s decline of form but Cesar Azpilicuta’s great form and consistensy in the Left-Back position. If he won’t reach an agreement with Chelsea over the next few weeks Cole might find himself playing as far as the middle east or America, or as close as Liverpool.
Another free players: Liam Ridgwell (West Bromwich) and Partice Evra (Manchester United)
Centre Backs:
Rio Ferdinand, 35, Manchester United – The big Englishman has already confirmed his departure from Old Trafford together with fellow centre half Nemanja Vidic. But unlike the Serbian, Ferdinand hasn’t find a new club with Hull City a firm favourite to get the veteran. Steve Bruce already claimed that he is interested, we will have to wait and see.
Younes Kaboul, 28, Tottenham – The France international has been injury prone throughout most of his time at White Hart Lane and already proved that when he is fit, he is one of the best centre halves in the league. Kaboul might still sign a new contract with Spurs after Tim Sherwood’s replacement.
Another free players: John Heitinga (Fulham), Michael Turner (Norwich) & Joleon Lescott (Manchester City)
RB: Bacary Sagna, 31, Arsenal – Another Frenchman enters our ranks, Sagna has been a solid right back during his time at Arsenal, but with rumours that Arsene Wenger is preparing to give the young and unexperienced Carl Jenkinson a run at the team he might be ready to let the veteran full-back to go on a free with Chelsea and Manchester City showing interest.
Another free players: Phil Beardsley (Sunderland) & Billy Jones (West Bromwich)
Centre Midfielders:
Michael Carrick, 32, Manchester United – Ever since Paul Scholes’ departure from Old Trafford Carrick came in as one of the most consistent midfielders in the league, and after an impressive 2012/13 he looked like a shoe-in to Roy Hodgson’s World Cup team. But after a disappointing 2013/14 campaign Carrick has dropped below his level and lost his position at the England squad.
Frank Lampard, 35, Chelsea – Although Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he will try to keep the veteran that has been a Chelsea servant for over a decade scoring crucial goals. If not signed a new contract it’s hard to see Super Frankie Lampard signing for another Premier League/European club, with New York Redbull are looking to get the Chelsea playmaker.
Another free players: Steve Sidwell (Fulham), Marc Albrighton (Aston Villa), Alexander Tettey (Norwich), Craig Gardner and Jack Colback (Both Sunderland)
RW: Tom Ince, 21, Blackpool – The young winger has been on-loan at Crystal Palace for the second part of the season. Hasn’t been so bright but Premier League manager of the season Tony Pulis already sets his sights on the young Ince who will try to make a better reputation for himself after a permanent move to the Eagles.
Another free players: Anthony Pilkington (Norwich), Sebastian Larsson (Sunderland)
LW: Marouane Chamakh, 30, Crystal Palace – Chamakh arrived to Selhurst Park last summer on a 1-year-deal contract from Arsenal, failing to really impress in his first season and with Gayle coming up through the ranks with great potential Tony Pulis might let the 30-years-old striker go.
CAM: Joe Cole, 30, West Ham – Another 30-years-old enters our list and he might as well move with speculation of him and Sam Allardyce leaving the club, Joe Cole isn’t at his peak for a long time (pretty much ever since he left Chelsea) Cole might find himself at the middle east or in another Premier League club.
ST: Samuel Eto’o, 33, Chelsea – Even though it’s highly unlikely that Samuel Eto’o will stay at England for another year, Samuel Eto’o has confirmed that he missed Champions League football before this year and will find a new club in Europe, the Cameroon international hinted that he has reached an agreement already with the club and might find himself in another European top-dog for yet another year.
Another free players: Nicklas Bendtner (Arsenal) & Ricardo Vaz Te (West Ham)
