Gers Stumble at St Mirren

Rangers and St Mirren will have to fight it out again in a replay at Ibrox next Wednesday after a 0-0 draw at St Mirren Park this afternoon. Ally McCoist took charge of today’s game and brought Madjid Bougherra back into the defence for David Weir who was suspended. Steven Naismith and Kyle Lafferty partnered in attack with Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller on the bench.

In fairness, it was a pretty poor performance from Rangers again today. The lack of width and creativity was very obvious and the two strikers, low on confidence, had nothing to feed on. The best chance for Rangers, probably of the whole game came from a break which involved a strong run from Kevin Thomson, who finally looked his dynamic self after a series of injuries, he passed to Lafferty who supplied a lovely flick back to Thomson then wide to Steven Davis who slotted a low cross to the near post which Lafferty couldn’t get on to. The other good chance for Rangers came in the second-half when Madjid Bougherra stormed forward and produced a classy chip through to Naismith who couldn’t get a toe on the ball.

I am not kidding when I find it hard to write about today’s game, it was starved on any clear chances due to the poor quality on show. On the whole, it wasn’t good enough but on a positive note, I felt Kevin Thomson had a very good game today and probably was man of the match.
