Ryan Giggs has stated his plans for the future. The veteran left-winger has been at Old Trafford since 1987: an amazing 23 years at the same club, something that not many players nowadays would be prepared to do. In his time at United, he has won the Premier League 11 times, the FA Cup 4 times, the Carling Cup 3 times, the Community Shield 8 times, the Champions League twice, once the UEFA Super Cup, twice the Intercontinental Cup/FIFA Club World Cup.
Giggs has vowed to finish his playing career at Manchester United and he will not play in lesser leagues due to his age. Once he retires, that will not be the last of him that we will see. He plans to go into coaching and even seriously considering going into management. He aims to follow in Sir Alex’s footsteps and manage Manchester United one day. Another job he would be interested in would be that of the Welsh national team. He accepts the fact that he may have to manage other clubs before being an attractive option for the Man Utd hot seat. He is currently halfway through his UEFA Pro License, required by anyone wishing to manage a football club in the top level of a nation’s league system on a permanent basis. The comments of Ryan when speaking to the Sun were:
“I think I will probably finish my career here [at Old Trafford]. I am at an age now where it is coming to an end pretty soon. I cannot see myself dropping down leagues and playing at a lesser level.”
“If you do decide to go into management, for me the ultimate jobs are Wales and Manchester United, purely because I have played for my country and for the team I supported. Those two would be the best ones for me. If that was to happen I shouldn’t think I’d be able to take over straight away. So if I was to go into management I would have to go elsewhere and be very successful – then come back.”
