Gordon Bennett! Arsenal and Spurs Tracking Posh Defender’s Progress.

Ryan Bennett has been rumoured with a move away from London Road to join Premier League sides Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur. Both clubs are reported to have sent scouts to watch Bennett perform in Peterborough’s last two fixtures against Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town.

Ryan Bennett joined ‘The Posh’ in January last season for a record fee, reported to be around £500,000. His performances since then have shown potential but the former Grimsby centre back has a nasty tendency to be prone to critical errors, which were often punished in the Championship last season.

Is Bennett in line for a shock move?

Whether he will ever make it at the level that clubs such as Arsenal and Tottenham remains to be seen, personally it would come a surprise if he did develop into a player of the calibre needed to play for either of the London club’s rumoured with him, but it will be unlikely that either team will try to integrate him into the first team set-up immediately, with a loan move a more viable possibility.

Arsene Wenger has already bolstered his defensive line this season with the additions of two French centre backs, Sebastian Squilliaci and Laurent Koscielny. Harry Redknapp has made just one signing this summer bringing in Brazilian midfielder Sandro.

Joe Lewis has also been linked with a move to a Premier League club, this time in the form of Sunderland. A club source, most likely to be Barry Fry, stated that “we are ready to sell but the price has to be right as Joe is among the top three or four keepers in the League.” The fee of £2.5 million, that Peterborough are reportedly looking for, may be a stumbling block although ‘The Black Cats’ may be looking for a back-up goalkeeper with Martin Fulop leaving during the summer.

In other transfer news Ben Wright has joined big-spending Crawley for an undisclosed fee after scoring 4 goals in 5 games for Hayes and Yeading, the club he was previously on loan at.
