Ilkay Gundogan Salary Confirmed by Galatasaray – Man City Legend Way Below Top Earner

Ilkay Gundogan’s exact salary at Galatasaray has been revealed following his free transfer from Manchester City.

The 34-year-old former Germany international, who is of Turkish heritage, was confirmed as Galatasaray’s ninth summer signing on Tuesday.

Gundogan followed Leroy Sane, Ismail Jakobs, Przemyslaw Frankowski, Victor Osimhen, Mustafa Duru, Arda Yilmaz, Wilfried Singo and Ugurcan Cakir in joining the Turkish Super Lig champions.

Galatasaray statement reveals Gundogan salary

When confirming Gundogan’s arrival, Galatasaray included the exact financial terms in their announcement.

“A two-year contract has been signed with the player, effective from the 2025–2026 season,” read a club statement.

“According to the agreement, the player will be paid a net guaranteed salary of €4,500,000 per season.”

That means Gundogan is set to earn just over €86,500 (£75,000) per week after tax in Istanbul.

Galatasaray continue pay transparency trend

Galatasaray’s decision to publicly reveal details of Gundogan’s salary is part of a recent trend at the club, who did the same for their other summer signings too.

For example, when Leroy Sane joined earlier in the window, the club confirmed he would be paid €9 million net per season plus a €3m loyalty bonus. Defender Wilfried Singo’s five-year deal was also published in full, revealing an annual salary of €4.8m net.

While most major European clubs still prefer to report “undisclosed” transfer fees, Galatasaray have chosen to embrace transparency. Each of their financial summaries has been signed off with the message: “Respectfully announced to the public.”

Gundogan will earn much less than Victor Osimhen

At the very top of the scale sits Victor Osimhen, whose blockbuster €75m move from Napoli made him Galatasaray’s biggest signing of all time.

As announced by Galatasaray, Osimhen will earn €15m net per season, with an additional €1m loyalty bonus and €5m a year in image rights.

That puts Osimhen’s total package more than four times higher than Gundogan’s.

Gundogan is not the only player to leave Man City for Turkey this week. Despite a previous approach from Galatasaray, Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson opted to join Fenerbahce on Tuesday. Fenerbahce did not publish details of his salary.

How much did Gundogan earn at Man City?

What Gundogan earned at Manchester City was never officially disclosed, but multiple reports placed his final Etihad deal at around £230,000 per week gross — roughly £12m annually before tax.

That figure means his new contract in Turkey is a significant step down financially.

However, Gundogan appears very happy with his decision to join Galatasaray — a team he supported as a boy.

On Wednesday, Gundogan took to social media to post two pictures. One showed him holding the Galatasaray badge on his shirt, while in the other he was standing proudly alongside wife Sara Arfaoui and a Turkish flag.

Gundogan captioned the images with the words: “My childhood love & my love of my life”.
