Ederson Changes Transfer Tune After Galatasaray Approach Manchester City

Ederson’s Manchester City future is up in the air following an enquiry from Galatasaray.

The Turkish giants made an approach to the Citizens regarding their 31-year-old goalkeeper as they look to add more talent to their squad following the acquisitions of Victor Osimhen and Leroy Sane.

The club already have four goalkeepers in their ranks but lost main man Fernando Muslera to Estudiantes so are on the lookout for a longer-term number one.

Ederson fits the bill having watched City sign James Trafford for a hefty fee from Burnley earlier this summer, defeating Newcastle United to his signature.

And City also want Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain in this window if they can get him following the Italian’s fallout with the French giants.

Having both Trafford and Donnarumma potentially at the Etihad this season would leave Ederson in an awkward predicament of perhaps being left on the bench – or in the stands – and that could force him to make a move for the good of his career.

But it would be a far cry from what the Brazilian stopper told the media about his time at City back in June.

The custodian explained at the time how he had no desire to leave Manchester and that he expected to remain on their books beyond the beginning of this campaign.

What Ederson said about Manchester City future

“My future is here,” the 31-year-old said two months ago. “Some friends send me a lot of news but 99 percent is fake news. I understand you guys – you need the news to put a like on social media or rant for the news.

“I understand but there’s a lot of fake news around my name. My head is here. It stays with City.

“It gives me everything to go back to the Premier League again and try to win the Champions League as well. My mind is staying in the club.”

It is being reported that, despite the current situation and Donnarumma added to that, City would be reluctant to see their player depart the club. He has been a mainstay in the starting XI since he joined in 2017 from Portuguese giants Benfica.

He cost the club €40million back then and with just one year left on his current contract, Galatasaray would hope to land their transfer target for a fraction of that price.

Stefan Ortega, meanwhile, still has his own future at City to figure out.
