“We Don’t Intend To Sell Bougherra and Wilson” – Bain

Rangers Chief Executive Martin Bain has admitted the club do not intend to sell star defender Madjid Bougherra and the talented 18-year old Danny Wilson during the transfer window. Speculation had intensified before the World Cup claiming Bougherra had his heart set on a move away from Ibrox and that Wilson would tie up a move to Liverpool. However, Bain has publicly denied that the Scottish Champions want to sell either player.

Wilson has already turned down a new contract at Ibrox

Bain said “The fans are probably fed up reading about speculation over Madjid Bougherra but I can categorically state that it is not our intention to sell him. He still has two years left of his contract with us and we certainly hope he is with us for the start of the new season. Danny Wilson is also under contract for another season and although he has turned down a new contract with us, he remains our player”.

As it stands, Bougherra and Wilson will return to join the Rangers squad this summer but there are a number of interested parties in both players. Wilson was close to securing a £2m move to Liverpool in June but with Rafael Benitez heading to Inter Milan that move has stalled. The youngster has a year left on his current contract and the Gers will be hopeful they do not face the nightmare scenario of him leaving for free. Algerian defender Bougherra had a poor World Cup in South Africa which saw the Desert Foxes knocked out in the group stages, that may hinder any possible move for Bougherra away from Ibrox. Galatasaray, Bordeaux and Hamburg are three of the allegedly interested parties and Bain denied rumours that Rangers and Hamburg had agreed a £5.25m deal last week.

Bain’s comments come as good news for the supporters, who were left disappointed and frustrated two seasons ago when Carlos Cuellar made a surprise move to Aston Villa after saying he wanted to stay in Glasgow.
