Inter 1-1 Cagliari

Once again, a lack of motivation against one of the weaker sides in Serie A has cost Inter Milan two points. Roberto Acquafresca, who is currently on loan from Inter, put the Rossoblu in front after 65 minutes, before Zlatan ibrahimovic finished off a good move from the Nezzuri to draw level. Maicon and Dejan Stankovic both missed out due to suspension and a knee injury, respectively. So the ever versatile skipper, Javier Zanetti, reverted to right-back. Jose Mourinho’s side lined up in a 4-4-2 formation, as opposed to their usual 4-3-3, as:

                          Julio Cesar

Zanetti       Cordoba       Samuel      Maxwell

Figo            Cambiasso    Muntari        Chivu

                Ibrahimovic         Cruz

With Hernan Crespo, Ricardo Quaresma and Mancini coming off the bench.

The first half set a precedent of a free-flowing, end-to-end match, with both sides having a handful of chances. Although, as the first 45 minutes drew on, it became clear that Inter were having the better chances out of the two sides.

It wasn’t until the second half of the match that the deadlock was broken, but Ibrahimovic cancelled Cagliari’s goal out, with the Nezzuri taking a seven point lead as they watch the rest of the Serie A fixtures on Sunday. Javier Zanetti was outstanding at right-back, where he played for so many years before being switched into midfield. For a 34-year-old, he showed the stamina and agility of a 26-year-old. Hernan Crespo was also fantastic in his cameo role in the game, playing a pivital role in Inter’s goal. And once again, Mourinho has shown his master touch when it comes to making substitutions, as the goal came just three minutes after a double-substitution, reverting to a more attacking style.
