Jorgen Strand Larsen Reveals Transfer Stance to Wolves After Newcastle Bid

Jorgen Strand Larsen has reportedly told Wolves of his desire to join Newcastle United before the end of the transfer window.

The Magpies are desperate to add a new striker to their squad and manager Eddie Howe identified Strand Larsen alongside his recruitment staff.

Newcastle are believed to have had two bids knocked back by Wolves for their 25-year-old forward with a £50million offer being tabled initially.

That was booted into touch as it had no add-ons attached and was a straight cash proposal. Then another £55m was seemingly also rejected as Newcastle stepped up their interest and desire to land their target.

Wolves have maintained that their striker is not for sale this summer as the Norwegian has already scored two goals in three matches with both coming in the comeback victory over West Ham in the EFL Cup.

Last season he also had a good campaign where he banged in 14 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions.

It appears that Strand Larsen is considered a key cog in Vitor Pereira’s machine at Molineux and that is one of the main reasons the Midlands club have no intention of selling.

Now, though, according to multiple sources and outlets across the country, Strand Larsen has informed Wolves of his desire to make the move to St James’ Park with Monday’s deadline looming.

It has also been reported, though, that the Norwegian international frontman is not looking to force a move away from the club he is currently playing for – a la Alexander Isak – but he is open to a switch.

Newcastle are targeting Strand Larsen as a long-term replacement for Callum Wilson, who departed the club earlier this summer when his contract expired.

But the pursuit is not linked to Isak’s transfer situation, despite uncertainty around the Swede’s future.

Other Newcastle United striker transfer targets

With limited time left in the window, Newcastle may need to reassess their options if Wolves continue to block Strand Larsen’s departure.

Nico Jackson was on Newcastle’s radar.

While a £40m bid for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa was knocked back.

Strand Larsen only joined Wolves permanently in July, following a successful loan spell from Celta Vigo.

The deal was completed for €27m, and he has gone on to continue his fine run of matches since that departure from La Liga.

His form has quickly established him as a fan favourite and a vital figure in Wolves’ attack.

Wolves host Everton in the Premier League this weekend, while Newcastle travel to Leeds United.

Unless Wolves’ stance changes, the Strand Larsen transfer update looks set to remain one of frustration for Eddie Howe’s side.
