Former Everton Recruitment Chief to Hire SON at Rangers – Fans Livid

Kevin Thelwell has drawn the ire from raging Rangers fans after it emerged he was set to hire his SON as head of recruitment.

Thelwell has come in for criticism in recent months for his handling of the situation regarding manager Russell Martin.

The Ibrox Sporting Director has thrown his weight of support behind the boss despite a dreadful start to the season where the Light Blues have only won one of their opening six Scottish Premiership fixtures.

They were also torpedoed out of the Champions League in their qualifier against Club Brugge in what was a miserable 9-1 aggregate defeat while Martin has also fell out with Nico Raskin who is a fan favourite.

Some of the summer signings have also been questioned with Youssef Chermiti arriving from Everton – Thelwell’s former club – for around £10million which some saw as controversial.

But if punters viewed the striker’s signing as suspicious, further questions are now being asked after it emerged that Thelwell’s son, Robbie, is due to arrive at the club as their new recruitment lead.

Robbie Thelwell to join Rangers as Head of Recruitment

Thelwell junior’s credentials do not fill fans with confidence with his current role at Norwich City – head of technical scouting and loan management – is his most accomplished position.

And that is one at Carrow Road the 26-year-old has only held since 2024.

Before taking that job with the Canaries, Thelwell enjoyed positions with Aston Villa and Wolves where his old man was also in charge.

Another Toffees name, Nathan Fisher, is believed to now also be closing in on a gig at the Scottish giants as part of a massive behind the scenes revamp at Gers.

Nathan Fisher is close to becoming the club’s new Head Scout which will take him from his role as Head of Emerging Talent at the Hill Dickinson Stadium to join up at Murray Park.

Rangers in major backroom staff revamp

Elsewhere, David MacGregor will be promoted to Head Kit Manager, James Ramsden will become Head of Performance while Jaymes Monte will arrive as Head of Insights amid a raft of tweaks.

However, the Herald in Scotland claim that Gers sources confirmed to them that Robbie Thelwell was wanted by Premier League clubs in England before he chose to join his Dad in Glasgow.

His appointment follows what the outlet described as a “thorough recruitment process”.

These decisions made by Thelwell are unlikely to calm any fan concerns which have been clear and obvious in recent weeks.

Protests have been held against Martin as well as chief executive Patrick Stewart while Thelwell has been questioned at times over decisions.
