Barcelona teen sensation Lamine Yamal equalled a special Kylian Mbappe record in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The 18-year-old scored and provided an assist as Barca came from behind to claim a commanding 4-1 win over FC Copenhagen.
Owing to the commanding victory, Barcelona finished in fifth place in the UCL league table, directly qualifying for the Round of 16.
Barcelona accumulated 16 points from eight Champions League outings, boasting a goal difference of +8. Chelsea, Sporting CP, and Manchester City also secured 16 points but finished behind the Spanish side due to their inferior goal differences.
Lamine Yamal Leads Barcelona Comeback Against Copenhagen
Barcelona went into Matchday 8 outside of the top eight. They needed a win, and a sizable one at that, to give themselves the best chance to qualify for the Round of 16.
Barca wanted a quick start, but it was Copenhagen that landed the first blow in the fourth minute. Barcelona regained control shortly after but could not find the equaliser in the first half.
The breakthrough finally came in the 48th minute, with Dani Olmo, Lamine Yamal, and Robert Lewandowski combining for the goal. Olmo sent a peach of a delivery, Yamal carried it forward and pulled back for Lewandowski to finish from close range.

Then, on the hour mark, Yamal put Barca 2-1 up. His curling effort from the right took a deflection and beat Dominik Kotarski in goal.
The Catalans tightened their grip after the second goal, with Raphinha (69′) and Marcus Rashford (85′) scoring to make it a comfortable 4-1 win.
Lamine Equals Mbappe Record in Champions League
It was the third time that Lamine Yamal had scored and claimed an assist in a Champions League match.
He is now only the second teenager in history, after Kylian Mbappe, to register as many doubles in the competition. Mbappe scored and assisted in three Champions League games during his first season with Paris Saint-Germain.
Lamine Yamal first achieved this feat in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Benfica during the 2024/25 season. His goal contributions helped Barca secure a 3-1 victory over the Portuguese side.

His second came in the Champions League league-phase clash with Club Brugge in November 2025. Yamal’s goal and assist helped Barca draw 3-3 with Brugge.
Had Barca dropped all three points, Barcelona would not have secured a confirmed ticket to the Round of 16.
Yamal is facing a decisive year in his career, and his performances show he is not unnerved by the challenges of adulthood.
The 18-year-old has played 27 matches for the Catalans this season, scoring 12 goals and providing 13 assists. Overall, he has registered 37 goals and 47 assists since joining Barca.
Yamal’s output at 18 surpasses both Mbappe’s and Erling Haaland’s, hinting at a bright future for the Spain international.
