Chelsea have confirmed that striker Liam Delap is on track to return to training in November following the hamstring injury he picked up against Fulham.
Importantly, no surgery is required, meaning the 22-year-old is set for a rehabilitation period of around 10 weeks.
Liam Delap Injury Update
Delap pulled up during the first half of Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Fulham on August 30 and was replaced by youngster Tyrique George.
Initial fears from head coach Enzo Maresca suggested an eight-week absence, but the club’s latest assessment points to a slightly longer recovery window.
The English forward is therefore expected to miss at least 11 matches across competitions, including key Premier League clashes with Liverpool (October 4) and Tottenham Hotspur (November 1), as well as the start of Chelsea’s Champions League campaign.

Chelsea’s Response to Delap’s Absence
The injury setback has already impacted Chelsea’s squad planning. With Delap unavailable, the Blues recalled Marc Guiu from his proposed season-long loan at Sunderland.
The decision came after Chelsea sanctioned Nicolas Jackson’s late move to Bayern Munich on deadline day — which includes a conditional obligation for the German champions to make the deal permanent.
While Guiu is highly rated internally and admired by Maresca, the Spaniard lacks Delap’s top-level experience.
That gap in physical presence and Premier League know-how makes Delap’s absence a significant blow.
Delap Chelsea Stats
Signed from Ipswich Town for £30million in the summer, Delap had made a promising start to life at Stamford Bridge.
He featured six times at the Club World Cup, scoring once, and started two of Chelsea’s first three league fixtures.
Though fellow summer recruit Joao Pedro has made a stronger scoring impact so far, Delap’s strength and hold-up play have been key in balancing Maresca’s attack.
Losing him during a period of fixture congestion makes the timing of his injury particularly frustrating.
Will Delap Make England’s World Cup Squad?
For Chelsea, Delap’s absence reduces their attacking options just as the schedule intensifies.
Maresca had been hoping to rotate between Delap and Joao Pedro to keep both fresh for domestic and European challenges.
On the international front, Delap also faces a setback in his long-term ambition to push for England selection ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
With limited opportunities before March’s international break, his chances of catching Thomas Tuchel’s eye may have to wait.
When Will Liam Delap Be Back?
According to the latest Liam Delap injury update, the striker should resume training in November and may be ready for match action soon after.
However, Chelsea will likely ease him back gradually to avoid setbacks, meaning a full return to peak sharpness could take several more weeks.
For now, supporters will be hoping Delap can rejoin the squad in time to contribute during the festive period, traditionally one of the busiest stretches of the Premier League season.
