Liverpool: A Bad Way To Treat The King

Its just days after a disastrous season for Liverpool has ended and the news coming from the Liverpool official website is that the King has lost his throne. It was obvious for many and a shocker for some like me as just days before the Fa cup final Liverpool’s owner said that Kenny’s job is safe.

Kenny had been given a three year contract at the start of the season with the motive of getting Liverpool back where they belong – ”Top of world football”.  However he spent a huge amount on buying players in summer which were supposed to be premier league proven players and will help in re-building the club. But all of the signings failed to impress and didn’t show their worth. This issue became a problem for Kenny as throughout the season he was critisized for paying a total of 71m on Stewart Downing , Jordan Henderson and Andy Carroll who had a tough start to his Liverpool career but now is showing his worth. Failed tactics, failed signings, it seemed like Kenny is not the one for modern day football.

The League Cup success was great but could not cover up the disastrous league form. The team was playing attacking football but their ability to see-off weaker teams was a matter of concern. To add to the woe’s Luis Suarez was handed a 8 match ban , a matter which spoiled the club’s reputation and a matter which wasn’t handled well by Kenny. The sacking showed that the owner just doesn’t want the manager to spend money but also give success. Its obvious that any owner would not be happy if  the manager spent around 110m but could not beat teams like Blackburn, Norwich, Swansea and finish 8th in the league but I think the owners should have been more patient , the success was coming, fans could sense it, the Carling Cup win and the FA Cup final was already on the track. As they say you learn from your mistakes, Kenny has learned it, he knows where he went wrong and would have brought sharp improvements next season but sadly his time is over.

The owner’s and the chairman’s words after the sacking clearly suggested they want champions league football. The club cant afford to loose their reputation and of course the money which they will get from playing in it . But Kenny was building the club, he was bringing that dynamic attacking football style of Liverpool of the 70’s and 80’s. Throughout the season the team was short on confidence but when they clicked it looked like there is no stopping them. And now Kenny is gone some other manager will come and he will bring in his players his tactics and training methods and the re-building phase starts again that’s bad management by the owners. There could have been improvements in the summer , Lucas the backbone of the Liverpool midfield missed out half of the season will be back . Secondly dude to the injury’s to Lucas, Adam and Gerrard young players like Spearing and Shelvy came in and gained experience and can be trusted as a backup to any of them next season. Thirdly  the Pepe Reina couldn’t get worse. Reina considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in Europe had a season to forget. He still has it in him but he has played a lot of games I mean a lot! a little break and he will be back to his best. The only thing left to do was buy a winger and a goalscoring striker to remove the pressure of Suarez and there you have a team ready to fight for the champions league   But as it stays It is a sad end for a great football legend even sadder because Kenny is one of the main person for the illustrious history the club has.

The Carling cup, The Final of the FA Cup, The Europa League qualification in his first season in charge but still all of them are overlooked by the league form by the owners. This is indeed a bad way to treat the King!
