Liverpool Will Miss Out This Summer

It has been reported by Caughtoffside.com in the last day or so that Liverpool will miss out on their big summer target Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Armenian looks set to move to Borussia Dortmund instead for around the £20m mark and it is obvious to see why. It’s called Champions League football which is something Liverpool haven’t been seen in for a while. Its big deals like these that they will continue to miss if they fail to get back in the top flight of European football so how does Liverpool get back there?

They can’t I’m sorry to say and there are several reasons why. The top 4 clubs have the simple advantage of having qualified for the Champions League and that means any club below them is not much of an offer. Just look at the story involving Alvaro Negredo who was being linked with an offer of £14m from West Ham according to the BBC, a team not renowned or should be out spending vast amounts of money when competition for places in the Premier League is difficult enough and isn’t a guarantee. Just when Man City make an inquiry it can only be an easy choice for the player if the deal really is on the table for him. Although I am sure the wages he may receive might help to influence his decision as well.

Another problem that the Kop faithful have is the manager. I like Brendan Rodgers, he is a good honest manager with good ideas but I don’t think he is the man to bring Liverpool out of the rut that they are in. He is not a top European name and its this exact reason why he cant attract the big names to what was and still is a top European club. Any player who goes there should honoured and privileged to play for a club with a great tradition and history. Brendan Rodgers is at best only able to bring stability and a level of consistency that should see them push for a Europa League place. Although they did miss out on a place for next seasons Europa League. Which may not be such a bad thing anyway.

The players they have brought in over the past few seasons have not helped the situation either. Even the transfers so far this summer are at best unwanted by other clubs any more(Kolo Toure) or not up to scratch for the top clubs to gun for. They rely to much on Suarez, who is worse and more dangerous than a loose cannon and they may start the season either without him as a result of his suspension or not being there at all.

So what can to be done? What really is the way forward for a club who hit the heights not that long ago? Simple really, go back to what they know and what they have always done. Since the dawn of time Liverpool have never really gone far from the city to find players and it’s within the city itself that has brought them players now legends in the halls of Anfield. A youth policy which has brought them players from Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard. Mix that youth with genuine proper experience and build a strong team that can push up the table and get back into Europe

Liverpool is not a club like another, it’s not a Man City who up until recently didn’t have a massive history in the game. It’s not a club like Arsenal who have brought young talent from abroad and it’s Not even remotely like Manchester United simply because it isn’t.

Liverpool is not a club or a city. It is a living breathing life form. When it looses the fans feel pain. When it wins they feel joy like no other. It’s a club that became part of the family that sat with you at dinner. But at the moment the fans are watching the club as if it were suffering from an illness and they cant do a thing about it and it hurts. The club have the right ingredients to go forward and be great again. All the board have to do is mix it all together.
