Liverpool’s attack is in dire need of a finisher, a goal scorer. Luis Suarez seems to be the backbone of the clubs attack and is the only realistic player who can score above 15 goals for Liverpool this season. An injury to Fabio Borini has added the pressure on Suarez to perform. Liverpool currently sit in 12th place having won just two out of nine matches in the Premier League. The Reds shock loss to Swansea City 1-3 at Anfield in the League Cup added pressure on Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool to form a winning and competitive side.
Luis Suarez has netted 6 goals this season and the only player at Liverpool to be a threat to the defence of the title contenders Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea. Suarez famously netted consecutive hat-tricks against Norwich City. If Suarez were to be injured the attacking crisis would be in overdrive. Rodgers would have to look into his youth which is why Liverpool need to look in the market for a world class finisher.
The first candidate is Klaas-Jan Huntelaar from German club FC Schalke 04. The Dutch striker was the Bundesliga golden boot last year netting an impressive 29 goals. Huntelaar is a poacher, a clinical finisher a player similar to Andrew Carroll but better. A line up would see Huntelaar up front with Suarez becoming the holding forward. However Huntelaar’s low key performances at AC Milan and Real Madrid would question if he could repeat what he did at FC Schalke 04 at Liverpool.
The second candidate would be Didier Drogba. At his Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua he has netted 8 goals in 10 matches. Drogba would provide a short term solution for Liverpool. This transfer would be slightly controversial to Chelsea but would solve Liverpools attacking crisis.
The third candidate would be Necastle United’s Demba Ba. Demba Ba a striker of great strength and finishing, a target man Liverpool so dearly needs. Demba Ba was prolific last season as he helped the side to 5th place in the Premier League as he netted 16 goals. If he could repeat this form for Liverpool they would be a lot better off.
The three forwards Huntelaar, Drogba and Ba are all quality finishers when in form and would provide what Andy Carroll failed to do last season. Liverpool look to bounce back from their shock loss to Swansea City against Newcastle United in the Premier League this weekend.
