Man City produced a thoroughly professional and accomplished performance to see an extremely poor Newcastle side to record their third Premier League victory in four games: a result which pushed the Blues further up the table and into ninth position. Goals were scored by Shaun Wright-Phillips, who netted for the first time in seventeen matches, Craig Bellamy on his debut for City, and a consolation strike from Andy Carroll for the visitors
