Match Review: Everton 1-0 Manchester United (20th August)

On monday night at Goodison Park, Everton hosted Manchester United and the game was suppose to be about one individual at Manchester United, Robin Van Perise, but by the end of the 90 minutes it was all about one man in an Everton shirt.

Man United went into the game favourites and had Shinji Kagawa starting on his debut, RVP sat on the bench, for Everton there was no place in the team for Kevin Mirallas but Steven Naismith got a game on the bench. Man United dominated possession throughout the first half but could hardly create any chances with Kagawa hardly getting any touches. However Everton were creating many chances through Osman, Baines & Fellani, De Gea managing to stop them scoring.

And the second half started the same way the first half ended with Everton creating chances, Leon Osman hitting the crossbar. Man United kept hold off possession and looked like they make a breakthrough until Marouane Fellani got his head on a corner to make it 1-0, although there were a couple of defensive errors from United. Then RVP came on and his corner resulted in Tom Cleverley’s shot being cleared off the line by Phil Jagielka who went on to make many important tackles throughout the remaining minutes, Tony Hibbert & Sylvain Distin also put in brilliant defensive displays. And a full time not even the partnership of Rooney & Van Persie could stop Everton from winning the 3 points. One of the biggest shocks of the season had just taken place.

My man of the match was Fellani, he was brilliant in the air, all of Everton’s play went through him, he controlled the ball brilliantly and no defender could tackle him, brilliant display from Fellani. Also i thought Osman & Baines & Jagielka had good games for Everton and that the whole team should be pleased with there outstanding efforts last night. For Man United i thought Valencia & Kagawa had good games. Everton will now travel to Aston Villa and United host Fulham.
