Match Review: Manchester City vs. Southampton (Sunday 19th August)

Today at the Etihad Stadium a game took place which in many ways similar to the game that took place here on the 13th May. Man City went into the game clear favourites, Southampton were apparently playing to not be beaten very badly.

It started badly for Man City, a missed penalty and an injury to Sergio Aguero but the other Argentinian produced the goods when Carlos Tevez slotted home a Samir Nasri ball to make it 1-0 at half time.

In the second half City started to be over-confident in thinking that it would be a walk in the park, that was not the case, two inspired substitutions by Saint’s manager Nigel Adkins, Rickie Lambert & Steven Davis suddenly turned the game in their favour with two goals to make it 2-1, but with twenty minutes to play you can never rule City out.

That was the case when Edin Dzeko tapped in from close range to equalise for the Blues, then disaster for Southampton. Left back Danny Fox thought it was sensible to head it straight to Samir Nasri who was never going to miss, and that was game over. Southampton did pressure City for the remaining minutes of the game but City got the three points.

3-2 the final score at the Etihad. Samir Nasri was my man of the match with a goal & assist for the Champions. City travel to Liverpool next next while Southampton host Wigan at St Mary’s.
