Eiður Smári Guðjohnsen, known in English as Eidur Gudjohnsen,is an Icelandic striker born on September 15,1978 in Reykyavik.
Guddy made his debut in the Icelandic league club Valur Raykyavik when he was just 16 and ended up the season with 7 goals in 17 games. His performance in his debut season caught the eye of PSV Eindhoven for whom he played for the following two seasons.During that time he broke his ankle and had difficulty coming back because of undiagnosed tendinitis in that ankle and during his injury struggles PSV released him.
Gudjohnsen returned to his native Iceland to play for KR Reykyavik in the 1997/1998 season before signing for the Premier League club Bolton Wanderers, where he played for two seasons before joining Chelsea. He left London after 6 years, scoring 75 goals in 261 games, to replace Henrik Larsson in Barcelona. The fee was claimed to be €12 million with an additional €3 million depending on appearances and performances.
He made his La Liga debut on August 28,2006 in match against Celta Vigo. With three minutes remaining in the match,he scored the game winning goal, leading Barcelona to a 3-2 win.He ended 2006/2007 season as club’s fourth scorer with 12 goals in all competitions. He was club top scorer in Champions League with 3 goals.
Although Gudjohnsen played reasonably well in his first season with Barcelona,he didn’t seem to have fulfilled the expectations of neither Frank Rijakaard nor fans.During the summer of 2007 he was widely expected to be moving on but Barcelona didn’t take any concrete steps to off-load him.Because of injury, nothing happened anyway and Gudjohnsen took his place on the Barcelona bench fighting his way back into the team.
On February 20,2007 he made his 50th appearance in UEFA Champions League.
