Odsonne Edouard Swerves Former Club to Make Cut-Price Crystal Palace Exit

Odsonne Edouard has opted to leave Crystal Palace this transfer window and move back to Ligue 1.

The Frenchman has not had his troubles to seek since he joined up at Selhurst back in 2021 for a fee close to £17million.

Edouard, 27, made 105 appearances in his four years at the club but he was only able to chip in with 21 goals in that time as well as five assists in all competitions.

His time may not have gone as the player might have liked and his time at the club was compounded by a similarly difficult loan spell at Leicester City.

Edouard played only six times for the Foxes and he was unable to make any real contribution before he headed back to re-join the Eagles.

Now it is being reported that the former Paris Saint Germain youngster is set to make a move back to Ligue 1 in France after Palace sanctioned what is to be a cut-price deal.

Reports in France claim Edouard is heading back to his homeland to undergo a medical before making the move official later this evening.

Despite costing Palace around £16.5m, they will now likely sell him for closer to £3.6m which represents a massive drop in value for the attacker who once hit the goals trail in Scottish football.

That is one element Edouard can consider a success having found the back of the net for Celtic with 87 goals in all competitions from 179 appearances.

Ironically it is understood Celtic were approached this summer window with the possibility being floated as to a potential return for ‘French Eddy’ as he was so adoringly dubbed in Glasgow.

Edouard was offered back to former club

The Hoops have been holding out to sign striker Kasper Dolberg with Adam Idah closing in on a move to Swansea City before the window slams shut at 7pm in England.

Scottish football has until 11pm this evening to get their business done but the Hoops will not be taking Edouard back to the Scottish Premiership after he agreed to move back to France.

It has also been reported already this window that Edouard had held discussions with another club and was close to joining them before those negotiations stalled for one reason or another.

According to French Football News, OGC Nice were keen on signing the attacker and had been coming close to finding an agreement.

However, those talks ended when a deal could not be struck and that allowed Edouard to move on.
