Benjamin Sesko has been offered advice which may have re-opened a wound from Manchester United’s poor start to the new season.
The striker joined United this summer for a fee of around £80million but has started slowly and is yet to find the back of the net in his first four matches.
It has been a poor start for the mega money man who was also a Newcastle United transfer target, but it has not just been in the Premier League that he has stuttered.
The Red Devils sit ninth in the division after three games with four points from a possible 12.
But they are also out of the Carabao Cup after falling to a penalty shootout defeat to League Two outfit Grimsby Town who shocked their opponents by roaring into a 2-0 lead at Blundell Park.
Benjamin Sesko’s penalty status vs Grimsby Town was questi0ned
Ruben Amorim’s side would eventually haul themselves back into the action but it finished 2-2 and then the Mariners would win the shootout.
Sesko would take the 10th spot-kick for his side after the top choices had already taken theirs. And former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann reckons the Slovenian has to be taking one of the first five.
He scored from the strike, but Hamann believes his price tag and duty as a striker should have him in the firing line as one of the first who should step up.
“Now, if you play a League Two side in the League Cup and it goes to a penalty shootout, and you cost £85million, you’ve got to take one of the first five penalties,” he t0ld CoinPoker.
How Sesko earned move to Manchester United
“Because a centre-back or a full-back has to take a penalty and the star signing doesn’t take one until the 10th penalty.
“This is what he has to be aware of because if you do one or two things like this early on in your career, the career might be finished at this club before it starts because you’ve got people against you. I think he has to be aware of it.
“I don’t know who advises him, I don’t know who he listens to, but I think somebody should have a word with him and tell him about the dynamics within a team or a dressing room or a club like Manchester United, because he mustn’t do this again.
“If he does, as I said, it could be over before it started.”
Sesko earned his move to Old Trafford with his form for RB Leipzig where he notched 21 goals last season in all competitions from 45 outings.
So he certainly knows where the goal is.
