Two ex-England Internationals And Why They Would Fit at Celtic

Celtic had a poor transfer window this summer and fans have been clamouring for change at board level.

The Hoops needed strengthening in several key areas of the pitch but their support were left furious after they failed to spend on a new striker despite having months to do so.

Kasper Dolberg was Celtic’s main target but he opted to leave Anderlecht for Ajax which left the Scottish Premiership giants scrambling towards the 11pm deadline on the final day of the window.

As it transpired, the window came and went without a forward signing but Kelechi Iheanacho joined on a free after having his Sevilla contract ripped up.

Celts also improved their wide areas with the signings of Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Sebastian Tounekti but the punters were still unhappy and a club statement could not placate them.

Dele Alli could resurrect career at Celtic

More incomings from the free agency market would arguably still not calm the current storm of complaints, but there are two players who could suit Brendan Rodgers’ style in the form of two ex-England internationalists.

Firstly, Dele Alli has just been released by Como and at 29-years-old he still has a lot left in the tank.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Everton star has been like a lost puppy in recent times having struggled for game time in Italy as well as with Besiktas on loan before that.

He is a fresh, creative and attacking talent which is exactly what Celtic need right now. It is possible manager Rodgers is one of those coaches who could get the best out of the playmaker who, at one time, was a £25million player.

Celtic could also look towards ex-Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

If Dele could recapture his best form he would be an asset to the Scottish club who need only take a chance on a one-year deal with an option similar to the contract they handed Iheanacho, another man who needs to redeem himself.

The second option, another former England star, is perhaps slightly more of a gamble given his age. Not that 32-years-old is past it, by any means, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain plays in a position where legs are necessary as is fitness and desire.

Aaron Mooy, for example, joined Celtic at 31 back in 2022 and became a fan favourite for his efforts at Parkhead.

Ex-Arsenal man Oxlade-Chamberlain could do the same if he was to give his all in green and white and show why he, too, was a player back in 2017 that cost £22m.

He was recently let go by Besiktas in Turkey and has the likes of Everton and even rivals Rangers sniffing around.
