It was an excellent Sunday afternoon of football today, as West Ham deservedly beat Liverpool 3-1, Birmingham stole the Carling Cup with an injury time winner from Obafemi Martins and Manchester City drew 1-1 with Fulham. However instead of talking about teams and matches, two players really stole the show this Sunday and both of them are English. When it comes to Scott Parker and Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere it’s most definitely a contrast in ages, but both of them have the same style of play. The midfield pair both like to get on the ball, stray passes all over the park, get forward and make the odd tackle or two.
It was a brilliant weekend for one player in particular and that is Scott Parker, one of the most consistent performers in the West Ham side, Parker yet again showed his true talents as he pulled the strings in the Hammers midfield this afternoon. The 30 year old also managed to get his name on the score sheet, as his clever finish found the bottom left hand corner of the net, via a deflection off the post.
After his exceptional performance against Barcelona young Jack Wilshere also stepped up to the plate in a crucial game for Arsenal. The Carling Cup final was one of the most exciting major finals in English football in sometime, the game was full of chances and a costly mistake by the Arsenal defence indivertibly cost them their first piece of silverware for six seasons. Even though Arsenal might have to wait a little longer for a trophy, Jack Wilshere yet again was the star performer for the London side. Even though he does have issues with his temperament, his sheer tenacity to get on the ball and to find a pass is just incredible to watch.
Wilshere could well turn out to be a marmite player, a love or hate kind of footballer but there is no doubt about it that the 19 year old central midfielder is one of the most promising talents in World football. Wilshere’s passing skills were probably one of Arsenal’s strongest points in the Carling Cup loss, and his link up play yet again was just exceptional, even with Fabregas injured the midfielder stepped up to the plate and put in a very proud performance.

Scott Parker and Jack Wilshere are two incredible football players, who are both in line for an England call up later this year. With everyone talking about Gerrard, Lampard and Barry being the heartbeat of England’s midfield, there is no means why Parker and Wilshere can’t be involved in the mix aswell.
Back to Scott Parker and after another man of the match performance today against Liverpool, the talented midfielder will receive yet more praise from managers and pundits alike. With West Ham locked in a relegation battle, the midfield trio of Parker, Noble and Hitzlsperger will have to play an influential part in the Hammers season. Parker’s never die attitude and all round play will need to be perfected in the latter stages of the Premier League season, West Ham certainly have the team to stay up but if anything Avram Grant will look to players like Parker for guidance and passion.
Meanwhile Jack Wilshere in my view could well be a future leader for both Arsenal and England, he still has a long way to go in his footballing career but the way he is emerging at the moment most pundits will agree, that the lad has a bright future. If he can run Barcelona ragged again at the Nou Camp in a couple of weeks time, and perform a solid midfield partnership with Fabregas then Wilshere will surely be classed as one of England’s best players at this moment in time. You just don’t perform like that against the best European team in the world in Barcelona, if you haven’t got anything special in your locker.
Despite one player being 30 years of age, and the other being only 19 both Scott Parker and Jack Wilshere are playing at the top of their game right now. The midfield maestros are two of the best passers in the Premier League, Wilshere currently has the world at his feet while Parker just seems to carry on his consistent performances week in week out, I can safely say both Parker and Wilshere are incredible football players, and hopefully their good form can continue.
