Manchester United young defender Gerard Pique has reportedly agreed personal terms with Barcelona over a four-year contract. Barcelona will now have to agree a price with the Red Devils to sign the player; the price being around £3.75 million. The Spanish youngster was brought up in the Barcelona academy and was transferred to the English Champions on the 1st July 2004.
After spending a season out on loan at Real Zaragoza, and impressing for the Spanish club, Pique came back to United to try and challenge the Ferdinand-Vidic partnership. Although he was very useful when injuries hit the Man Utd Champions League squad this season, Gerard never really established himself as a first-team player. It seems that now, after evaluating his chances of cementing a place in the starting line-up of next season, Pique decided to return to his homeland and join his former club.
Manchester United are expected to agree to the deal and make the transfer public after next Wednesday’s much-awaited Champions League Final against English rivals Chelsea.
