Possible Transfer Targets – Part II

I have already identified players that could come in to fill the defensive midfield void, but that’s not the only troubled area that money will have to be invested in to fix. Spurs haven’t had a natural left winger for a few years now, and it seems the Damien Comoli and the last few managers have had a blind spot to this position. Giovani Dos Santos is left-footed and can easily fill the position, but he has been injury plagued since his time in London, and is best when cutting inside onto his left foot from the right wing.

Stewart Downing

A natural left-sided midfielder, although not strictly a winger. A player that Tottenham have been tracking for quite some time, he is probably he most likely player to be brought in. He has both the ability to take players on and get to the by-line, and also to put a good ball into the box. He is probably Harry Redknapp’s ideal signing, but is he the best player available?

Adam Johnson

Also of Middlesbrough, Johnson is a talented young Englishman who is being courted by a certain Senior Juande Ramos. In the mould of Stewart Downing, but would probably not be able to cope with playing week in week out. He is a decent player, but another 21-year-old is not what you need when you are only out of the relegation zone on goal difference. This deal is probably not that likely because of this.

Juan Arango

This 28-year-old has played over 70 times for his native Venezuela. He is strictly a central midfielder, but would have no problem playing on the left-side. His experience would be priceless, and he has scored a few wonder goals in his time. He has scored over a goal every four games during his spell with Mallorca. I think he would be an excellent signing, but I have to refer back to Harry’s tendency to go English. And, with only 1.04 Euros to the Pound, players are much more exoensive when you go abroad.

There are many good left-wingers in Europe, but I look upon Juan Arango as the ideal signing, but it is just important that we get somebody in to fill the three-year void.
