Pre-Match: Man Utd vs Tottenham

The match between Manchester United and Tottenham should be an entertaining football game. It kicks off at 17:30 BST at Old Trafford. For this match, United will be without star striker Wayne Rooney after Ferguson stated that his ankle injury will put him out of action for more than three weeks. Other absentees from the squad are Owen, Giggs, Hargreaves and Valencia. Tottenham have more absentees than United, being Dawson, Defoe, Huddlestone, Corluka, King, Woodgate and O’Hara. It was also reported that with a match against Inter next Tuesday, Harry Redknapp may rest Gareth Bale and start him on the substitutes bench, after the Welsh player scored a hattrick in the other match against Inter.

In this campaign, Man Utd are still unbeaten, but this does not indicate that they are on top form…far from it. Disappointing draws this season have meant dropped points, and put United five points behind current league leaders Chelsea in the table in the third place. From this, Tottenham derive hope that they can get some points off the Red Devils on Saturday. However, history is against them as the last time that Tottenham won against United was in 1989, and in the last 25 matches between the two sides, Spurs have failed to win. This season, they have never kept a clean sheet in the league, and most of the goals they conceded came in the first half of the matches, conceding just one second-half goal. Berbatov and Hernandez are expected to start up front and the pair has scored a combined total of 12 goals this season, 9 of which were scored in the Premier League. Clattenburg will be the referee of the match.
