At the halfway stage of the Premier League season, many teams are looking at their position as a base for the rest of the season so they know if they should improve or if they over or under achieving. Some of my predictions have gone horribly wrong (Liverpool winning the title, Fulham finishing 15th) but here are my predictions for the rest of the eason.
Title Chasers
Chelsea are my favourites to win. They have looked fantastic under Ancelotti minus Wigan and could win comfortably. Arsenal I think will be second because they have a strong team and will be even stronger once Van Persie comes back. Manchester United will be third and will fight Chelsea and Arsenal for the title.
4th Place and Europa League
Anyone of 4 teams could get this place and will go down to the last day. I think that Tottenham Hotspur will get it. They have an extremely strong squad with Modric, Lennon, Defoe, Crouch, Corluka etc and have been very consistent when the team isn’t boozing in Ireland. Manchester City will finish fifth, but will fight Tottenham all the way. Liverpool, the biggest undar achievers this season, will have to do with sixth unless the Yankees sell up. Aston Villa will finish seventh, but they will win the Carling Cup.
Top and Bottom half
The rest of the top half will consist of Birmingham City, Fulham and Everton and they will all be impressive in the second half of the season, especially Everton with Landon Donavon, if he can provide the same performances he did against Arsenal. Sunderland and Stoke City will be safe from relegation and Sunderland will do even better next season with Darren Bent.
Relegation
Anyone of eight teams could go down in the toughest battle. Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic and West Ham United, with Bolton and West Ham improving drastically under their young managers. Burnley I think could join those four teams, providing they get a good manager like Hibernian’s John Hughes or Simon Grayson of Leeds United. Wolverhampton Wanderers could stay up if Sylvan Ebanks Blake and Stefan Maierhofer start scoring and Nenad Milijas shows the quality he produced throughout his Red Star Belgrade days. Hull City’s time in the Premier League is up because of a lack of good players apart from Jimmy Bullard, Kamel Ghilas, Jozy Altidore and Kamil Zayatte. Portsmouth will be the whipping boys, losing a lot of games BUT some players will be moving to bigger clubs over the summer-Kevin PRince Boateng, Hassan Yebda and Aruna Dindane just a few.
