Premier League Preview

Five Matches To Catch

Blackburn v Aston Villa
Blackburn haven’t made the best of starts to the Premier League season, as they currently sit in 18th place in the Premiership. Blackburn has only won one game in the League this season, as they beat Wolves 3-1 at Ewood Park. Benni McCarthy could well earn himself a recall after scoring in the Carling Cup in midweek. Blackburn’s defence looks quite strong on paper, with the likes of Samba, Nelsen and Givet packing it; however it has been shedding too many goals.

For Aston Villa they will defiantly come to Ewood Park in search for a win. Villa has started well this season as they are currently 5th in the Premier League table. Gabriel Agbonlahor has been on great goal scoring form and if he plays alongside John Carew, Villa could have a field day on the attack. However this fixture does mean that Stephen Warnock will make an appearance against his former club tomorrow afternoon.

Fulham v Arsenal
Fulham could well cause a stir when they host Arsenal on Saturday. Fulham are currently in 14th place, however their home form this season is pretty good. Even though Chelsea defeated them at Craven Cottage, playing Arsenal could be a different story. Andy Johnson will of course cause the Gunners centre backs problems, along with Zamora or Nevland whoever Hodgson decides to play up front. Also Clint Dempsey and Damien Duff could cause problems from the flanks.

After an impressive start against Everton, Arsenal find themselves in a sluggish 7th place. Their away form has been pretty dire as they have lost the last two on their travels. However the fitness boost of both Arshavin and Walcott could see Arsenal pick up all three points tomorrow evening. Thomas Vermaelen though is on top form and funny enough he is the top scorer for Arsenal this season, scoring four from Centre Back. Fulham also have to be wary of the Arsenal attack as the gunners passing game could well play Fulham off the park.  Van Persie and Eduardo will surely be in goal scoring mood.

Portsmouth v Everton
Portsmouth has had the worst possible start to a Premier League season, as they sit at the bottom of the table with no points and the worst goal difference in the League.  Also they host Everton, a club which seems to be moving in the right direction after a poor start to the season. Pompey of course has had to sell many of their best players, and looking at the equation the club have brought in a lot of fringe players into the club. Portsmouth has signed the likes of Frederic Piquionne and Tommy Smith in the transfer window; however it seems they haven’t made much difference. Pompey could well lose again tomorrow as they will still remain bottom of the Premier League table.

Everton have found form after a Uefa Cup win over Aek Athens a couple of weeks ago. Louis Saha has scored six goals so far this season and with Yakubu back to full fitness, a formidable partnership could start to show in the upcoming weeks. The signing of Sylvain Distin looks to be a good one, as Everton still remain without Phil Jagielka. The likes of Tim Cahill and Steven Pienaar could well cause Portsmouth problems on Saturday. A win for Everton tomorrow could see them plummet up the table to at least 8th place.

Stoke v Man United
Stoke host a strong Manchester United side at the Britannia Stadium tomorrow afternoon, as the Potters will try and seek a shock result against the Red Devils. Stoke however come into the game with striker worries on their mind. Ricardo Fuller and James Beattie are both doubtful for the United game tomorrow along with Amdy Faye and Mamady Sidibe. Stoke however are in 10th position after picking up eight points from their six matches so far. Dave Kitson and Tuncay will cause Manchester United’s centre half problems tomorrow afternoon, however a win or a draw looks very doubtful for Tony Pulis and his players.

Manchester United come into the game after a battling 4-3 win over Man City last weekend. United are currently second in the table behind Chelsea, however if Chelsea slip up against Wigan, United will be right in their reach. Wayne Rooney has seven goals to his name this season, as he could well add more tomorrow. Also Michael Owen and Darren Fletcher are in good form coming into this game with Stoke. Manchester United will surely pick up a win against Stoke as The Potters haven’t beaten The Red Devils since 1984.

Tottenham v Burnley
Tottenham have had a Jeykll and Hyde start to the season, as Spurs host Burnley this time at the home of White Hart Lane. Tottenham have been slightly inconsistent this season, as they started off with wins over Liverpool, Hull and West Ham. However they suddenly seemed to ship goals against Chelsea and Manchester United in recent weeks. Tottenham however will surely win this one tomorrow with Defoe and Crouch both in goal scoring form. The midfield will also create a lot of chances with Tom Huddlestone and Wilson Palacios the likely Centre Midfield pairing.

Burnley has had a good start to the season aswell as they sit in 9th place in the table. The Clarets however will probably get beaten quite comfortably against Spurs tomorrow, as their away form is shocking. The best results Burnley can hope for is a draw at White Hart Lane. Strikers though of Steven Fletcher and David Nugent, could create some chances for Burnley tomorrow along with Robbie Blake. Burnley has also got a number of injury problems to contend with, as Brian Jensen and Martin Paterson both picked up injuries in midweek. Burnley could well struggle tomorrow as Tottenham attacking force will surely be too much for the Lancashire side.
