Carlos Queiroz has stated that he couldn’t have guessed at the start of the season that Man Utd start Cristiano Ronaldo would score 40 goals. He encouraged Crsitiano Ronaldo not to be satisfied by this virtual peak, and continue to improve and become a better player in the future, rather than resting and relaxing. He labelled Ronaldo’s work as ‘smart work, discipline, commitment’. He said that Ronaldo is a hero to many football-watching children worldwide, but behind the fantasy there is a lot of reality.

Queiroz, however, challenged Ronaldo to prove wrong criticism that he is not consistent in big matches. The Portuguese assistant coach said that Ronaldo must perform exceptionally well in the big games for him to be recognised the world’s best player. Two games in which Ronaldo MUST perform well are the matches against Wigan (final Premier League match day) and the Champions League final against Chelsea. After that, he can look forward to helping his nation Portugal right the wrongs of the Euro 2004 campaign, and win the 2008 Championship.
