The extremely sudden and unexpected resignation of Fabio Capello’s from his role as England’s National Team’s Manager shocked many football fans. In the afternoon of February 9th, Capello officially announced to the press that he will no more take charge of the team because “the English FA gave him a disgrace.” What this means is that, despite of his scandal with his ex-team mate’s wife, and the racism rumors with QPR’s center back Anton Ferdinand, Capello gave the English Captaincy to Chelsea’s John Terry. This brought a number of arguments, especially by the FA because obviously they wanted to give Terry a suspension and relieve him of his duties as as captain. But the demanding Fabio couldn’t hold his rage because he clearly stated that “picking the team and the Captain should be fully done by the head coach (himself) and his decision should not be interrupted or changed by anyone, even the FA.
Anyways, what’s done is done and England is desperate to find a new manager for them. The manger of Tottenham, who brought his club from relegation zone until reaching third place in the league, Mourinho, Real Madrid’s manager and so-called, “the special one”, Guus Hidink, who made a miracle to bring South Korea into the semi-final of the 2002 world cup, is on the top list, but I don’t think either Redkanpp or Mourinho are in any mind to leave their club, and Guus Hidink wants a league club rather than a international team.
In my opinion, David Beckham can fill in, although Capello picked some talented youngsters like Jack Wilshere, there are far more future stars that should be selected, like Alex Smithies (Huddersfield), Josh McEarchan (Chelsea) and Micah Richards (Manchester City) who should be in the A-team rather than in the Under – 20’s. I am confident that 36-years-old, experienced, but fresh as a manager, Beckham will single out such players and will make some revolutions in the team.
Argentina claimed Maradona as their manager who never lead a team before but lead Argentina into the quarter finals of the late 2010 world cup. Also the dandy look of the superstar will concentrate the cameras to him, gaining further popularities even from female fans where their country can’t participate in the world cup. David Beckham is best choice for England in the worst situation where EURO 2012 is in four months time.
