Robins Falter At Home Again

Bristol City again failed to perform at home this past Tuesday, only managing a 1-1 draw against struggling Watford.

The away side looked the better side for much of the game, with the home team firmly on the back foot for long periods.

However, Gary Johnson’s side earned a somewhat fortuitous lead after Nicky Maynard finished nicely on 71 minutes following a Stern John pass.

Maynard, in what one reporter has called his ‘best game in a City shirt’, scored his second goal in two games to put the home side 1-0 to the delight of the City fans.

However, in an all-too typical occurance, the lead did not last long. 30 seconds later, Tommy Smith all too-easily eluded the Bristol City defence to slam home an equaliser.

And that is how the result remained, with City recording another home draw.

City manager, Gary Johnson, told the BBC: ‘It was the old story of being most vulnerable after scoring. We need to start turning our home draws into victories. But we are still well placed, and not far off the play-off positions.’

Despite the draw, Bristol City do indeed remain in a surprisingly promising position. The Robins lie in 13th place in the Coca Cola Championship table, just 3 points behind rivals Cardiff who occupy the final play off position in 6th.
