Marseille chairman Pape Diouf has stated that Samir Nasri’s move to Arsenal is still in the pipeline, but a ‘few days’ are needed to finalise the transfer.
Arsenal have been attempting to secure the France international for weeks now and it was thought that the conclusion of Les Bleus’ Euro 2008 campaign would pave the way for an official announcement confirming his move to North London.
A statement on Nasri’s official website confirmed he was en route to Emirates Stadium on June 23 but this was swiftly withdrawn as Marseille denied a deal had been concluded.
L’OM have already signed his replacement after seeing Hatem Ben Arfa join from Lyon on Wednesday, and Diouf now expects the drawn-out saga to come to an end soon.
“The documents need to be fulfilled,” Diouf told a press conference. “A few days are still needed.â€
Arsenal’s only confirmed signing of the summer has been Aaron Ramsey from Cardiff, with Jens Lehmann and Mathieu Flamini both leaving the club on free transfers.
