Rangers manager Walter Smith has revealed he targets three signings ahead of the new SPL Season on August 14th.

Smith takes his Rangers squad out to Australia on Tuesday to take on Sydney, Blackburn Rovers and AEK Athens before returning to face Clyde, Glentoran and Newcastle. The Gers made their first pre-season appearance yesterday at Queen of the South in which the SPL Champions ran out 1-0 winners thanks to Kenny Miller’s second-half goal.
With Kevin Thomson the latest player leaving Ibrox, Smith admitted bids for other players would be considered. He also said “I’m looking to add two or three players to the group. Bougherra and Edu will join us on Tuesday so that will give the squad a boost but we still need to add more and I’m hopeful we can do that. There’s nothing imminent but I want a player for the back, the middle and the front. The money we received for Thomson will have no bearing on how many we can bring in but there’s a little money to spend.”
The Rangers boss also wants to give some of the youngsters a chance this season and he said “The young lads will get a chance and it’s up to them to show me what they can do.”
Defender Danny Wilson starred last season while Bougherra was out and midfielder Fleck made a handful of appearances in the first team. Both could be joined by Gregg Wylde, Thomas Kind Bendiksen and Ross Perry who made a brief appearance at Palmerston Park yesterday.
