Spurs 4-2 Denia

Tottenham’s second friendly of the pre-season was to be a comfortable win against C.D. Denia, in the third tier of Spanish football.

Not long into the match; the Spaniards forced Michael Dawson to head off the line. But that didn’t affect Spurs, and they went on to monopolise possesion, and finally got what they deserved when Adel Taarabt amd Jermaine Jenas struck late in the first half. But on the stroke of 45 minutes, Denia pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 at the break.

Robbie Keane and Giovani Dos Santos came on at half time. But it was youngster, Andros Townsend’s brilliant play on the left wing that forced an own goal, and the two-goal lead was restored.

And then, just before the hour mark, Giovani set up Darren Bent to make it 4-1.

With half an hour of play to go; John Bostock returned to the field after coming off at the interval. But shortly after, Denia pulled another back to make the final score 4-2 to Spurs.

Spurs: Gomes (Jansson 63), Gunter, Dawson (Zokora), Archibald-Henville (Woodgate 63), Townsend, Lennon (Bostock), Huddlestone, Jenas (Keane 46), Bostock (Giovani 46), Taarabt, Bent (Pekhart 63).
