Spurs complete double signing to round off a busy transfer window

Looking back, Tottenham rounded off transfer deadline day with a double signing of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and forward Clint Dempsey. Andre Villas-Boas started his managerial post at Tottenham FC eager to sign a goalkeeper, a striker and a replacement to Luka Modric who left White Hart Lane to join Real Madrid.

The pursuit of French international Hugo Lloris was summer-long but Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy managed to complete the signature of one of the world’s most highly rated goalkeepers on deadline day. The capture of Lloris has set Tottenham back a sum believed to be in the region of around £11 million, which for a keeper only at the age of 25 seems to be a steal for spurs.

Clint Dempsey, the other last minute deal came as a surprise to most as he seemed to be heading to Liverpool. The USA international scored 23 goals in 46 games for Fulham last year and at £6 million seems a bargain. Dempsey’s versatility will come in handy at White Hart Lane as he can play across midfield and can slot in as a centre forward too.

Lloris and Depmsey join the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Jan Vertonghen, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Moussa Dembele who have all completed moves to White Hart Lane this summer.

The main replacement for Luka Modric will be Moussa Dembele. Dembele’s signature guarantees general class in central midfield, creativity and goals. At £15 million, Dembele cost a fraction of the price that Tottenham received from Real Madrid for Modric.

Another big departure from Tottenham this summer was Rafael van der Vaart, who made a deadline day switch to Hamburg for a fee in the region of £10 million. The playmaker’s goal scoring and creative ability with the ball will be a huge miss, but the signature of Gylfi Sigurdsson is a great addition to the squad and will help to soften the blow. Sigurdsson made his name on loan at Swansea last season, scoring seven goals and claiming three assists throughout the season.

Emmanuel Adebayor, who spent last year on loan at Tottenham, completed his move from Manchester City this summer. With 18 goals for spurs last year, Adebayor is another good addition to the squad. Belgian Jan Vertonghen also completed a move to Tottenham from Ajax earlier this summer. The former captain of Ajax and Belgian international will help to strengthen up the defence and is a fit replacement for the recently retired Ledley King.

Sebastien Bassong, Steven Pienaar, Giovani Dos Santos, Louis Saha also left the club, whilst Danny Rose and Harry Kane have been loaned out to Premier League sides on season long loans.
