Spurs In-goings and Out-Goings + Silly Season

With one season over and another one begins, there is a pre-season before the real season starts and I call it the “Silly Season”. We have already seen and heard what this Silly Season is about. Fine example: Kaka for £56 million and then when we thought it was over, Ronaldo for £80 million. That could be seen as “good piece” of business, but really… a combined fee of £136 million for two people? That’s just silly…

Being a Spurs fan since I was 3 years old, I’ve been with the ups and lows of the seasons, not that many really (I’m only 20 years old). Me making a thread about my team could be seen as biased but with Spurs you are never short of a story about their in-goings and out-goings.

Last season we were reported to be linked with pretty much everyone that played football: David Villa, David Silva, Carlos Kamini, Diago Forlan, Freddie Adu, Freddie Kanoute (again), Stuart Downing (again), Louis Saha, Andrei Arshavin, Santa Cruz, Lassana Diarra, Michael Owen, Diago Milito, Miguel Veloso, Lukas Podolski… the list literally went on!

With some rumours having allot of backing behind it but only to see it not materialise than others, it made good reading in the Silly Season. This year, Spurs have had a quiet, yet turbulent, transfer front on the tabloids. This thread is just to summarise what’s going on so far.

I feel there are allot of behind the scene action going on that are being kept hidden from the papers, as much to our demise, it’s sometimes a good thing for the clubs. I feel Spurs have been hyped up last season, by the papers, to buy players we didn’t really want: Bently and Pav were perfect examples. We were suppose to get Pav AND Arshavin, because Ramos was supposedly “keen on the pair” what we saw was half of the supposed striking partnership go to our rivals, Arsenal.

I feel Pav has had a hard start to this season, being tempted by a person who was sacked and given visions of a “top four” finish, no rest from international duty and previous club duty too, Pav had a hard start to Spurs. However the current rumours are stating that he’ll be on his way to Roma or Liverpool and other Spanish clubs keeping tabs on the player. If an offer comes in that we see will give us our money back, Harry won’t be too hard pressed to release him.

Bently another player who was hyped up to us by the papers, stating that he is coming to his “boyhood team” (I’m sure he said that when he went to Arsenal too…), became a flop. Apart from his one piece of brilliance against Arsenal, he has not really hit his £15 million price tag we all expected to see when he was at Blackburn. Rumours states Aston Villa has come in with a £15 million bid for both Bently and Huddlestone, a deal I see won’t materialise as I’m sure Mr Levy will want to see a return on Huddlestone (original price £3 million from Derby). As much as I love the player, he lacks aggressive prowess that we see in Wilson Palacios, however he can pass the ball where he means too with precise precision and that is deadly if you are looking for a holding midfielder who pulls the strings behind a strike force.

For both of them I’d like to see a good £20 million; we get the £15 million back we got for Bently and £5 million for Huddlestone. A deal I’m sure Mr Levy will welcome as well as Harry.

Again with Aston Villa they are in for our Mr Marmite, Jermain Jenas, also with Inter Milan keeping tabs on him too. I personally think he’s a player that should stay with Spurs as he has allot of potential and shows it too, when he’s not injured or just “recovering”. Like I said, he’s one of these players that you either loathe or love him. With me falling into the latter category. For me, I’d like to see him go to Milan so he can show us what a player he really was and show us what he can really do. He came to us from Newcastle with another hyped up media behind him; he produced but not enough and at times when he should of too. If he stays, great, I’m sure Harry will get the best out of him, if he leaves, then live and let go. He could potentially be the next Mr Spurs if he stays and produce the goods for us, if he leaves, I fear he could come back and bite us in the most unlikeliest of places.

Didier Zokora is another person I won’t miss if he leaves yet a player, if he stays, will be driven to his full potential. Sevilla are supposedly keeping a very keen eye on the player and would like to have him featured in their plans as they launch an assault on the Spanish league 1st place spot, after finishing just short of 7 points of Real Madrid but 18 on Barcelona. I’d be happy to see him leave and collect a good price on him of around £6-8 million. In my opinion, I don’t think he has much of a chance in the midfield as his style of play isn’t aggressive enough and he seeks to play backwards in a more safer sense of play than the play making, chance making and forward play that we are known for.

Ashley Young from Villa is on the radar, rumours again. He’s a very hot prospect and one that I would welcome with open arms. I believe he’s the next big generation of English players that would go far in this game, if natured properly. I’m positive that, if he comes, Harry will open his full potential and will suit in our structure well. However there is the case of he plays on the left but is a natural right footer, something that we already have in our structure in the form of Luka Modric, who is on top form. I’d personally welcome him, but he would have to fight for his position and I’m sure he will.

Van Nistelrooy to Spurs rumour was one that made me smile and sort of shocked me; smile in the fact that it’s a great piece of business and he’ll bring that much needed experience with him to the club, what shocked me was the asking price of only £1.25 million! BUY BUY BUY I said. But the negatives, as everyone knows, is his injury on his knee and I personally wouldn’t cut him out on coming back to the premiership as he has proved what a striker can do when you have both skill, class and experience behind you. If we buy him and his knee is back at full firing cylinders, we would have a very dangerous weapon in our inventory. The only thing is if he would come to us if we came knocking…

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to Spurs was a rumour that I dismissed straight away as I think Madrid would want a full return on his £20 million he went to the Bernabeu for. Plus I’m sure he wouldn’t want to come to a team who aren’t even in the UEFA cup let alone the Champions League, plus I’m sure we wouldn’t break our wage structure for both him and Van Niselrooy.

I best not get carried away with every single rumour that has transpired about my beloved Spurs so far, or I’ll be here all night! But just to summarise everything:

Everton in for Hutton: very doubtful as Harry would love the Scotland International to stay at Spurs and he’s a great attacking right back.

Espanyol in for Gio Dos Santos: another rumour that could be seen as positive more than negative. He hasn’t really fitted in well with our structure and the aggressiveness of the Premier League. The loan would of done him well and a season long loan would be do him well, should he stay. But a move back to Spain might do him good.

Stuart Downing to us: a deal that has been going on for sometime but with no real evidence of ever happening. Should it happen, I won’t be too over hyped about it as he only brings something we already have.

Darijo Srna to us: a deal that we won’t see as Corluka only said that he liked him and would “fit in well” in our structure. But with Harry keen on Croatian players, there maybe more to it that we think…

Aaron Lennon to both United and Liverpool: rumour that may have sting but not enough to concern us about. I think United need a more perfect finish at the end of a pass than Lennon currently posses. But with time, Harry will, as usual bring the best out of him, as he can only get better. Liverpool are keeping tabs on him but with the current rumours, they could have their eyes somewhere else.

Like I said if I name every rumour I heard and read, I’d be here all night.

What do you think with the current rumours we have or do you have a more potent story that’s more reliable than Robbo in between the sticks. (plus let me know of my first thread).
