Stoke Rumoured To Have Bid For Malian Forward

According to some reports in today’s less glossy press, Stoke have made a bid of around £500,000 for Mamady Sidibe’s Mali team-mate Mamadou Bagayoko.

The 29 year old currently plays in the French Ligue 1 for FC Nantes, who finished last season second behind the dominant Lyon. The 6’3” striker began his European career at French lower league side USL Dunkerque, before moving on the fifth division side FC Sens in 1998, where he made a name for himself scoring almost a goal a game, 29 in 34 appearances, in the 1998/99 season.

His form earned him a move to the French top-flight with RC Strasbourg where he failed to reproduce his goalscoring form, finding the net just four times in 64 league matches. In 2003 he moved from Strasbourg to AC Ajaccio where some better performances led to a big move to Nantes a year later. His time at Nantes has taken in reasonably successful loan spells at OGC Nice and Al-Wahda in the United Arab Emirates.

In total he has made 38 league appearances for Nantes, scoring 13 times. He has also won 15 caps for Mali, scoring three.

Championship side Sheffield United and hilariously inept League One side Leeds have also been reported to be interested.
