Two weeks on after the departure of Fabio Capello, Stuart Pearce names his first England squad and looks to be filling in for the vacant “impossible job” with no questions asked. After the resignation of a certain Fabio Capello, Pearce was called upon to name the 23 man squad to face the Netherlands on Wednesday, and without wasting any time, has surprised a few.
With Pearce’s first assignment, the likes of Fraizer Campbell and Tom Cleverly are set to make their first international caps. However, it’s not only the caretaker’s selection that has reassured a few, his confidence to answer questions regarding the current vacancy has also raised one or two eyebrows. In regards to the selection, the real shock was the inclusion of the two debutants, but also the omission of “veterans” Frank Lampard, and Rio Ferdinand, but is that such a bad thing?
He (Pearce) underlined the importance to which both Ferdinand and Lampard have on the set up, and followed up by reiterating the importance of giving the younger generation a run out in the build up to this summer’s European Championships.
So with the first press conference, and squad selection out of the way, is Stuart Pearce settling down for more than just the next few games? It seems so, he remains adamant that he has not been asked to take the job full time, but it has to be going through every England fan’s mind, he does fit the bill. In a BBC 5 Live Podcast both Stuart Pearce and Harry Redknapp’s credentials were compared and the conclusion was; Pearce, The fact that he is already close with a lot of the current players. Also the fact that he has experience of playing in a England side not too long ago. On the contrary, the overruling credential that the Spurs boss possessed was his trustworthy attitude, one that many feel will suit England and evidently lead them to glory.
In conclusion, after observing Pearce’s actions of the past days, and analyzing his ability to answer questions regarding the vacant “impossible job”. He definitely seems adequate to lead England until further notice, and doesn’t seem fazed by the task ahead.
However, lets come back to this at 10pm Wednesday night.
