Time for England squad to perform

Now is surely the time for an England squad to perform at a major championship

With the squad, manager and the passionate fans, we’ve never had a chance as big as this to win something since cliché ridden 1966. We all know the qualities of teams like Spain and Brazil but now, it’s our time to shine.

We’ve had plenty of false dawns under Sven, Glen Hoddle, Terry Venables and Kevin Keegan but now is no time for false dawns; it’s time to perform under the master disciplinarian, Fabio Capello.

By looking at our Group it would be so English and so easy to undermine the teams in our group, but they are here on merit, they went through the same qualification process as us and we have to go into games against them on an even level but however ensure they and we come out of games on a completely different level.

I will take a look at the Group C rivals to England in South Africa over the coming days. First up tomorrow is Algeria, then on Wednesday Slovenia and finally on Thursday England’s first opponents at the 2010 World Cup, the USA who we play on the 12th June at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.

Back to England for now though, we all know the players and their attributes and weaknesses so I won’t go into the depth like I will for the above teams, primarily because the other teams in our group aren’t well known by our public. So what I am going to do is comprise a 23 man squad which Mr.Capello I feel, should take on the flight to South Africa.
